Bee Jays Hold Down Hays in Pitcher’s Dual
In a pitchers dual, the Liberal Bee Jays held off the Hays Larks 4-3 Wednesday night at Larks Park in Hays. Liberal won despite just two hits. Hays had three hits and three errors.
The Bee Jays scored two in the second. Noah Giovanelli singled to lead off the inning. Cal Anthony walked. Drew Gartman reached on an error. Jhett Huffman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Josia Rojas grounded out to score a run. The Bee Jays scored two in the seventh to lead 4-0. Jhett Huffman was hit by a pitch and Josiah Rojas walked. An errors scored the third run for the Larks. Trenton Uyeda lined a sacrifice fly to right for the 4-0 lead. Hays scored three in the ninth and had the tying run on second and the winning run on first. But Josiah Rojas came in from left field to strike out the Lark hitter and secure the victory.
J. Brooks Kappelmann was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game going six scoreless innings allowing one hit. He struck out five. Anthony Edward went 2/3 scoreless before Sean Saiz worked 1 and 1/3 scoreless.
